Quick install overview — get up and running securely

Use this card-based guide to safely install Trezor Suite, initialize your Trezor device, create or recover your wallet, and configure long-term security. The flow below is intentionally modular so you can jump to any step and follow the checklist items inside each card.

Open Trezor.io/Start
Recommended

Desktop first — use a laptop or desktop for the initial setup to ensure firmware installs correctly.

1

Open the official setup page

Type trezor.io/start into your browser address bar. Confirm the padlock (🔒) and domain. Avoid clicking unknown links in emails, chat, or social media — phishing sites mimic the official UI to steal seed phrases.

  • Manual entry reduces phishing risk.
  • Do not download Suite from mirror or torrent sites.
2

Choose your Trezor model

Select Trezor Model T or Trezor One so the site provides model-specific firmware and instructions. This ensures you get the right binaries and warnings for your hardware version.

  • Model-specific guidance prevents errors during firmware flashing.
3

Download Trezor Suite

Click the official Suite download link and choose your OS: Windows (.exe), macOS (.dmg) or Linux (.AppImage). Suite is the local desktop app that handles firmware, accounts, and transactions while keeping keys on the device.

  • Do not use browser extensions or unofficial wrappers during setup.
4

Install & launch Suite

Run the installer and open Trezor Suite. On first run, allow required drivers (Windows). Suite will detect the device when connected and begin the guided initialization flow — follow the on-screen prompts carefully.

5

Connect your Trezor

Use the provided USB cable and plug your Trezor directly into the computer. Avoid USB hubs during initial setup. The device screen will display a welcome message and any firmware prompts.

6

Install firmware

New devices require firmware installation. Trezor Suite will fetch signed firmware and install it. Keep the device connected until Suite confirms completion. Firmware verifies the device and applies security updates.

  • If verification fails, stop and contact support at trezor.io/support.
7

Create or recover wallet

Choose Create new wallet or Recover wallet. For new wallets the Trezor will display a 12–24 word recovery seed. Write the seed on the supplied card — never photograph or store it digitally.

  • Store at least two physical copies in separate secure locations.
8

Set PIN & passphrase

Set a strong PIN directly on the device. Optionally enable a passphrase to create hidden wallets — this is powerful but irreversible if lost. All sensitive inputs are done on-device to protect against malware.

9

Verify transactions on-device

Every send or account change requires physical confirmation on your Trezor’s screen. Always ensure the address and amount on the device match the app before approving — this prevents undetected tampering.

10

Backups & long-term safety

Use a metal backup for your seed if possible and keep backups offline. Regularly update firmware and Suite. Beware of impersonator support pages — use only official links and verify domain names.
